Born in 1959 in Tianjin, China, Wang Shaojun graduated from the sculpture department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. Today he teaches as a professor and doctoral supervisor at this institution and was formerly deputy party secretary.
He is also a member of the National Committee for Urban Sculpture, an artwork evaluation expert for the National Art Museum of China and a member of the exhibition evaluation committee of the same museum. Other roles include executive director of the China Sculpture Institute and a member of the Sculpture Art Committee of the Beijing Artists Association.
His artistic journey began mainly with sculptures, but in recent years he has also worked intensively with watercolor painting and jade carving. His works, which have often been presented in major exhibitions in China and around the world, have attracted much attention.
